Choosing the best color for your skin tone can seem like a daunting task for many. Well-manicured nails pull your outfits together and make you look and feel totally finished. Thus, coordinating the best nail color for your skin tone ultimately compliments you, your lifestyle, clothing, and personality.
For those with dark skin tones, rich colors are most complimentary. These colors include dark red or muted burgundy. “Malaga Wine” and “I'm Not Really a Waitress” by OPI are favorites this season. Gold polish is also complimentary. Shades that are extremely light or silvery typically do not compliment dark complexions well.
Tan complexions look great in almost any shade. Lighter shades such as pale pink or lavender tend to accentuate the "tan" in the skin. Light brown and chocolate brown are great neutrals that go with anything and any season. Avoid wearing gold tones that are extremely close to the shade of your skin, as these shades tend to wash you out. Try “Dulce de Leche” or “Tickle My Francey” by OPI.
Medium or olive skin tones look best with vibrant, earthy colors. Corals and blush-colored hues are great. Try “Monsooner or Later” or “You Don’t Know Jacques”. Be aware that navy blue and dark purples make the skin appear pale.
Fair skin tones are complemented best by light beige or peach tones. Nudes are also great. Bright colors such as hot pink or medium purple also work. “Elephantastic Pink” and “Dim Sum Plum” are fun. Be careful with dark colors as they tend to make the skin of the hands appear dull and lifeless.
EVERYONE should remember, the darker the nail color, the shorter the nail appears. The lighter the color the longer the nail appears. Happy polishing!!!
Great tips for great looking nails and getting the most from your next manicure or pedicure.
