5 Ways To Get A Sunless Tan

We spend a lot of time reminding you to stay out of the sun, but that doesn't mean we want your skin to look pasty and blah. We're all for radiance, even a little tan, as long as you get it the safe way - that is, from a compact, a cream, or a bottle.

1.    Exfoliate

Get a quick brightening boost by peeling away the dull stuff at skin’s surface using an AHA like glycolic acid.  New at-home peels provide fairly good results. But a Medical Spa can provide professional results.  A good example:  Glytone 30% Glycolic Peel ($90) or a GLO Modified Jessner’s Peel ($115).

2.    Smart Self-Tanners

The latest self-tanners are made to suit your needs and give a much more natural look than self-tanners of the past.  For an on-the-go, try TOPIX Self-Tanning Wipes ($25).

3.    Illuminating Facials

The celebrity secret to a red-carpet glow?  LED Treatments.  “They stimulate the skin and increase circulation,” says Lea Eigard of Lea Advanced Skincare in Beverly Hills, CA. “When you bring blood flow to the skin, you immediately see a radiance.”  Most LED treatments use a red light to stimulate collagen and a blue light to oxygenate skin.  Take it up a notch by using five different colors.  ($100 and up)

4.    Powder Bronzers

To create a temporary tan using makeup, dust bronzer all over your face and neck.  The newest powders are packed with anti-aging ingredients and botanicals.  A great option – GLO Bronze in Sunkiss or Sunlight ($37) are excellent mineral formulas.  Skinceuticals AOX serums contain ferulic acid and vitamin C to brighten and boost skin’s radiance.

5.    Pro Glow

For the most flawless tan, go pro with a salon spray tan.  Harper’s Bazaar magazine chose Fake Bake sunless tanning system as the Best Salon tan.  After you choose your desired shade (from barely bronzed to tropically tanned), an airbrush nozzle mists on the formula to leave you looking sun-kissed without the sun damage.  Full body tan ($50) or Legs Only ($125)

  4. It's a great way to smooth out an uneven tan as well. My legs are always just a few shades lighter than the rest of my body, so Fake Bake gives me that even glow that I can never achieve otherwise!
